Despite a simple organism, the nematode C. elegans has defined tissues, including digestive, reproductive, and excretory systems. Previous studies have indicated that sectional histology can be applied to define novel phenotypes in C. elegans. We provide enzyme histochemistry and other staining methods combined with fresh frozen serial sections to analyze nematodes' metabolism.

Cell isolation and culture are essential tools for the study of cell function, having some advantages that can't be replaced with whole animals or even tissue explants. The isolated cells of C. elegans are also an important model system. And the cells can be used to study electrophysiology, cell autonomous development/behavior, and analysis of single-cell profiling. We have developed an efficient and technically simple platform for large-scale isolation and primary culture C. elegans cells from both embryos and all four larval stages.

Research that investigating genetic and phenotypic variation based on C. elegans wild isolates has emerged. Some of the marked phenotypic differences between C. elegans natural variations have been genetically and molecularly identified through quantitative genetic mapping approaches. Therefore, the characterization of the nematode wild isolates may elucidate C. elegans biology from a novel perspective.
